PAID IN FULL
A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As graduation day approached, the young man awaited for signs that his father had purchased the car.
Finally, during the morning of his graduation, his father called him into a room. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound book, with the young man’s name embossed in gold. That was his favorite book. Yet, he was still angry. He shouted at his father and said, ”With all your money, you only give me this book?” He left the room, ignoring his father’s present.
Many years passed and the young man had become very successful in business. He had a beautiful house and a wonderful family, but realized his father now was getting old and thought perhaps he should visit him. He had not seen him since graduation day. Before he could make the visit, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away and willed all his possessions to his son. He needed to be home immediately to take care of things.
When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still gift-wrapped book, just as he had left it years ago. With tears he opened the book and began to turn the pages. He read page by page, chapter by chapter. As he continued reading through the book, a car key fell out the back of the book. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had wanted. On the tag was the date of his graduation and the words Paid In Full.

There are a lot of research on both humans and animals on the effects of caffeine, and there is often thought that too much is bad for us. There is no conclusive evidence to implicate caffeine consumption as being significantly harmful to health, but there still is controversy with this, as there arestill some negative effects associated with caffeine consumption. Having some caffeine daily is ok, but using food and exercise strategies listed below, will certainly help in reducing fatigue and avoiding caffeine addiction.
Caffeine is a central nervous stimulant and can have some positive effects on the human body. Caffeine in low doses is thought to be associated with an improvement in sporting performance, increased alertness and reduction in fatigue potentially lifting a person’s mood. Coffee and tea also contain some antioxidants which have positive effects on heart health.
However, increased amounts of caffeine lead to dependency due to increased tolerance and hence, the need for greater amounts to gain the same stimulatory benefits. Heavy users who have to go without it can experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches and fatigue. Too much caffeine can produce restlessness, nausea, sleep difficulties, upset stomach, increased urine production causing dehydration, and cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). It has also been associated with elevated blood pressure in sensitive persons.
Both arguments might be correct. There is no clinical convincing evidence so far.

Chasing Dreams with ‘Coco’
Coco is an animated Disney movie directed by Lee Unkrich and produced by Darla K. Anderson, both of whom worked on the critically acclaimed Toy Story 3.
The movie was inspired by the Mexican holiday, Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead), during which family members pray for deceased family members and help them move on into the afterlife. The Day of the Dead is viewed as a time for celebration, rather than mourning.
Coco tells the story of Miguel, a 12 year old boy who dreamed of becoming a musician, which family wasn’t very enthusiastic about. But an accident soon brought Miguel to the Land of the Dead.
The story of Coco presents a simple but gripping conflict. Viewers will stay glued to the edge of their seats to see what happens next in Miguel’s adventure. The movie’s cinematography is classic Pixar, gorgeous from start to finish, and the unique character designs are charming.
Another thumbs-up goes to the voice actors who bring their characters to life and mix in Spanish-language bits with heavy accents. Adding to the Mexican flavor is the vibrant Latin music, with song like “Remember Me”, “Un Poco Loco” and “Everyone Knows Juanita”.
Coco is rich in lessons of morality, making it the perfect family going experience. It raises themes of family love and invites viewers never to stop chasing their dreams.

Tablets vs Books
Fast development of modern technologies such as computer, cell phone and tablets bring many advantages in human life. Almost every sector such as work, entertainment, and education are now depending on technology. In educational sector, for example, there is a policy to use tablets to replace textbooks. This policy makes a major debate among society. Some people agree that tablets will make teaching-learning process better but some other thinks not.
Among those who agree, tablets bring some benefits. First, tablets help students learn more material faster. Technology-based instruction can reduce the time students take to reach a learning objective by 30-80%, according to the US Department of Education and studies by the National Training and Simulation Association. Second, tablets can hold hundreds of textbooks on one device, plus homework, quizzes, and other files, eliminating the need for physical storage of books and classroom materials. The average tablet contains anywhere from 8 to 64 gigabytes (GB) of storage space. Third, tablets contain many technological features that cannot be found in print textbooks. Tablets give users the ability to highlight and edit text and write notes without ruining a textbook for the next user. Tablets have a search function, a backlighting option to read in low light, and a built-in dictionary. Interactive diagrams, games and videos increase student creativity, motivation, attentiveness, and engagement with classroom activities.
In other hand, people who disagree with the use of tablets point out several reasons. First, handheld technological devices including tablets are associated with a range of health problems such as eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision, and dry eyes. Second, using tablets is more expensive than using print textbooks. A broken tablet also requires an experienced technician to fix, which can be costly and time-consuming. Plus, tablets constantly need charging, increasing electricity demands on schools and the need for new electrical outlets. Third, tablets have too many distractions for classroom use. Students may pay attention to apps, email, games, and websites instead of their teachers. Tablets also enable students to cheat on schoolwork.
In conclusion, tablets indeed bring so many advantages in education especially in teaching learning process. However, we must see the other factors whether tablets are suitable to be used in educational institution now or later. We cannot deny that tablets are so expensive with its entire means of support. It is not fair if we allocate the entire budget to tablets while there are so many schools which need more important facilities such as school buildings, classrooms, libraries, clean toilets, and so forth.

A.       How tablets and books are used.
B.       Describing the usage of tablets and books.
C.       Presenting some ideas about tablets and books.
D.       The importance of tablets for students than books.
E.        The view about the people preference in using tablets.

31.         What is the main idea of paragraph 2 and 3?
A.      Both paragraph 2 and 3 discuss about the usages of tablets in more detail.
B.       Paragraph 2 declines the ideas of using tablets, but paragraph 3 supports them.
C.       Paragraph 2 discusses the tablets benefits, whereas paragraph 3 discusses tablets disadvantages
D.      Paragraph 2 shows the disagreement with the usage of tablets, otherwise paragraph 3 tells the agreement with tablets.

Dilan 1990
The novel “Dilan 1990” by Pidi Baiq has succeeded to gain girl's heart all over Indonesia. This novel is written in Milea's point of view about her charming, unique, and astonishing boyfriend named Dilan.
The story took place in Bandung, West Java. In 1990, while Milea was still a high school student, she met a mysterious guy named Dilan. Milea was on her way to school, and suddenly Dilan came on his motorbike and started to tell fortunes to her. She was completely confused at that time, but through time, she finally realized that it was Dilan's unique technique to get her attention.
On her birthday, Dilan gave Milea a completed crosswords playbook, which made her and her mom drown in laughter of confusion. At the same time, there was also another guy who had a crush with Milea, a college student from ITB, Kang Adi. To attract Milea’s attention, he gave Milea an expensive novel with a confusing story in order to impress Milea with her high level of intelligence, but for Milea, Dilan's ridiculous gift was more impressing than Kang Adi's book. On the other day, Kang Adi tried to take Milea out by his brand new car, but Milea preferred to go with Dilan by his motorbike. Kang Adi also gave a cool varsity jacket to Milea, but still Milea chose Dilan's Korean biking jacket. She always slept with Dilan's jacket and said “good night” to Dilan, even though it was only said in her heart.
From this book, I can assume that Dilan has reached a maximum prefect image of a guy that every girl adores. He always protects Milea from danger, and this is his promise, which becomes a famous quote of the book. "Milea, jangan pernah bilang ke aku ada yang menyakitimu, nanti, besoknya, orang itu akan hilang." in english it means "Milea, never tell me that someone hurts you, later, tomorrow, the guy will disappear."
Their love story isn’t a mainstream one, this makes people give a big credit to the novel. Dilan really respects Milea as a woman and every guy should know about this. All I can say that, I really like this book. The language is easy to understand, there are many pictures in it, the plot is good, and everything written in this book really touches all the right parts.

  1. From an early age, Valentina was interested in parachute jumping and it was this interest that led to her career as a cosmonaut. She made her first parachute jump under the guidance of the local Aviation Club in Yaroslavl at the age of 22, on 21 May 1959. Soon after, she set up the Textile Mill Workers’ Parachute Club and became its first committee leader. She was one of the five women selected as cosmonaut-candidates on February 16, 1962. While Valentina excelled in the physical training, she had more difficulty with rocket theory and spacecraft engineering.
  2. Valentina obtained a college-level education at the Zhukovskiy Military Air Academy from 1964 to 1969, and after her graduation, in October 1969, the female cosmonaut crew was disbanded. Although an all-female flight was consideredd aboard a Voskhod spacecraft in1965, this was cancelled after the near-disastrous flight of Voskhod 2.
  3. Valentina began school in 1945 in Yaroslavl at the age of eight. In 1953 she left school and began working, but continued her education by following a correspondence course. By 1961, she had gained a certificate in textile technology.
  4. On 14 June 1963, the rocket Vostok 5 was launcehd with cosmonaut Valeri Bykovsky aboard, and two days later, Valentina Tereshkove became the first woman in space aboard Vostok 6. The Russian space federation was unhappy with Tereshkova’s performance and she was not permitted to take manual control of the spacecraft as time of all the American astronauts put together.
  5. Valentina Tereshkova was born on 6 March 1937 in Maslennikovo, a small town of the former USSR. Her father, a tractor driver, was killed in action during the World War II. Her mother, Elena Federovna, worked in a textile factory.
  6. It had been planned for Vostok 5 to stay a record eight days in space, but Bykovsky had trouble with his hea regulation system and had to return to Earth after five days only three hours after Vostok 6.
  7. Tereshkova married Andrian Nikolayev, the only bachelor cosmonaut to have flown in space, on 3 November 1963, and on 8 June 1964 Valentina gave birth to a daughter, Elena Andrianovna, who later went on to become a doctor. But the marriage did not last long and the ‘space family’ fell apart.

45.         Write the best advice for completing the text bellow!
Low understanding toward negative effects of westernization has made people adopt the western culture and values unintentionally. When the country has become poorer and at the same time people see the fact that western people seem to be wealthier, they start to think western people are better than those in other countries. People started to admire the west culture without realizing that not all from the west is good. We may adopt the west professionalism and their spirit of working hard, but we should not adopt the ways of clothing, free life, individualism, etc.
Young generation has likely lost national identity. The youngsters do not have the pride to uphold their nation’s values as eastern people. The uncontrolled flow of information makes the westernization process run very smoothly. Internet, VCDs, cell phones, and other media transform effectively the Indonesian culture to western culture.
